CASE STUDY
Chinoiserie room divider screen
This was one of three antique screens we restored for Farringford House, the former home of the poet Alfred, Lord Tennyson on the Isle of Wight.
The panels were punctured in places and the leather edging and joints had deteriorated. The paint was cracked and missing in places and there were patches of fabric on the reverse from previous repairs. New painted panels of museum board were inserted in the back to strengthen the screen sections. The new leather edging and joints were blind embossed to look like the original. New hinges and tacks were applied and many surface repairs were carried out prior to re-touching the painted design on the screens.

“ Lancefield Conservation achieved phenomenal results with this very beautiful screen, which was badly damaged when brought to their workshop for repair. They are a small and highly skilled team who have beautifully, sensitively and appropriately restored a great variety of treasured items for us over the last five years. I find them always an absolute pleasure to deal with, and I would recommend them without the slightest hesitation. “
