about us
welcome
R & L Lancefield Bookbinding & Conservation was established in 1971
.
We are proud to be a family owned and operated business and currently have five members of staff which we find is a perfect balance between being small enough to ensure every client receives personal attention and large enough to deal with any size project.
our studio
In 2023 we moved from our Shedfield studio to our new studio in the village of Durley in Hampshire. We have easy parking with three dedicated customer parking spaces.
The internal layout was designed by us to be a clean, efficient and secure working space and has been more than adequate in dealing with all sizes of projects.
best practices and professional ethics
Using the best contemporary practices and expertise, items which come into our studio are diagnosed and treated according to their individual requirements.
All our work complies with ICON’s code of conduct and we are committed to maintaining the highest professional standards.
We only use the highest quality materials and all adhesives used are conservation grade, pH neutral and reversible.
With long term preservation in mind, we strive to include preventative conservation measures as a natural component of all treatments. These help to slow down the development of problems and so lessen the risk of costly treatments in the future. It is standard practice to supply our clients with reports on all treatments carried out. We also provide photographic records when appropriate.
After an initial assessment we are normally able to give clients an accurate forecast of treatment, cost and time-scale.
